Alma/Lexington Ghosttowns

At the bottom of the Lexington Reservoir, off Highway 17 between Los Gatos and Santa Cruz, lie the remains of several houses that made up the towns of Alma and Lexington. I don't actually know which town is which, so I have been calling the remains part of the town of Alma, but I don't really know if it was Alma or Lexington. To get here, take the Bear Creek exit from Hwy 17, then drive parallel to Highway 17 (on the reservoir side) upstream a bit until you get to a big dirt parking area on the side of the road. Then put on your waders and mud-resistant boots, and walk along the jogging/biking trail downstream. You can only see the town when the reservoir level is very low. I'm not sure how to predict it. It seems to be lowest in November/December just before it starts raining a lot. It has to be very low before you can see anything. I went in December 2004. In February 2005, the reservoir is nearly filled and impossible to see anything without scuba gear
